Sangams of Panchprayag:
Panch Prayag is a confluence of two Sacred Rivers. These are the set of five. As per legends, when River Ganges descended the earth then Lord Shiva in order to withstand her immense force divided the Ganges into various streams.
The five different places are :Devprayag ,Rudraprayag,Nandaprayag,Karnaprayag and Vishnuprayag
Devprayag: It is the confluence of river Alaknanda and Bhagirathi and forms the holy river Ganga. It is situated at a distance of 70 km from Rishikesh.
Rudraprayag: It is the confluence of river Alaknanda and Mandakini. It is believed that Lord Shiva appeared at this place in Rudra Avatar.
Nandaprayag: It is the confluence of Alaknanda and Nandakini River. Nandakini River emerges from the foot of Nanda Devi Peaks which makes it looks so mesmerizing.
Karnaprayag: It is the confluence of Alaknanda and the Pindari River. It is believed that in Karnaprayag, Karna of Mahabharata worshipped the Sun God.
Vishnuprayag: It is the confluence of Vishnu Ganga (known after this point as Alaknanda) and Dhauli Ganga. It has an ancient temple known as Vishnu Kund.
Every Prayag as its own Significance. One in his /her life must visit these shrines.
