A city is famous for its cuisines. There is a very interesting Story behind Udipi and Mahabharata which explains why people of Udipi are good in the Catering business. Before the Mahabharata War, all states took their sides, either of Pandavas or Kauravas. Only one chosen to remain neutral – the king of Udipi and Udipi cuisine is quite popular.
Udipi king said to Lord Krishna – “O Lord !!! Everyone in the war is going to fight and those who fight a battle will obviously have to eat and will have to survive for the next day. I will be the caterer for the Kurukshetra war. On this statement, Krishna Ji said – “ Fine, someone has to cook, so you do it”.The Udipi King was serving food for both sides.
People in the war were surprisingly shocked that how he managed to cook the exact amount of food, because no one knew how many people are died each day. By the time, they take accounts, it would have been too late for them. Definitely, how would the king know that how many people are still alive and cooked the exact amount of food for the remaining battle warriors?
When someone asked him that how he managed to make the accurate amount of food then he said –“Every day in the night Krishna likes to eat Boiled Peanuts. I peel them and I keep them in a bowl. He eats just a few peanuts and after he is done. I count to see how many he has eaten. If he has eaten 10 peanuts, I know tomorrow 10000 people will die, so I cook tomorrow’s food for 10000 people less.
Every day I count these peanuts and cook accordingly, so it turns out right”.This was the reason that Udipi was able to serve the food to soldiers correctly.
